Sibiu, 31 October 2026 — An explosion of energy, artistic refinement and expressiveness took shape on the stage of the Student Culture House of Sibiu. The first day of the “Hugo Wolff” National Student Dance Festival brought together some of the most talented dancers and choreographers from the country’s major university centres, offering the audience a memorable show that celebrated the strength, emotion and authenticity of student dance.
The artistic marathon of the first evening brought to the stage choreographic pieces of high aesthetic quality, covering an impressive stylistic range — from modern and contemporary dance to show revue, street dance, commercial dance, unconventional dance and theatre-dance. Each participating troupe brought impeccable technique and a profound story of passion, dedication and stage discipline.
The full picture of the first day was shaped by the participating troupes from the traditional university centres and by the choreographers who guided their steps with vision and mastery:
The high point of the first evening, which brought the whole hall to its feet in long applause, was the truly spectacular finale offered by the hosts: the preview of the trailer for the show “MARGOT”, staged by the MICROBIS Theatre-Dance Company of the Student Culture House of Sibiu. A masterful return to the origins and an artistic bow to the founding master, the production is a fascinating remake of the visionary choreography of Hugo Wolff. Through dramatic power, refined aesthetics and an overwhelming dynamism of movement, the trailer for “MARGOT” demonstrated once again the artistic genius of the Sibiu school of theatre-dance, offering a moment of unrivalled cathartic beauty.
“The first evening of the “Hugo Wolff” Festival was a true celebration of the soul. Together with the audience, we lived through moments of rare intensity, crowned by the extraordinary finale offered by the MICROBIS Company, whose trailer for the show “MARGOT” — a tribute to the original choreography of Hugo Wolff — quite simply took our breath away. I wholeheartedly thank all the student culture houses, the choreographers and the young artists for raising the standards of this festival to a level of absolute excellence,” said Liliana Popescu, Director of the Student Culture House of Sibiu.
The “Hugo Wolff” National Student Dance Festival continues on its second day with new energetic performances by the participating troupes, the extraordinary contemporary dance show “ALONE, NOT LONELY” performed by the JUMP IN Company from Cluj-Napoca (choreography: Alina Ciceo) and the Awards Gala.
